University of Bath (UK) climbs into top 100 international leaders for sustainability in higher education

The Fraunhofer Industrial Quantum Computing Consulting and Testing Center INQUBATOR is implementing innovative, easy access offerings to help industrial users get started with quantum computing. The aim is to identify and evaluate new application-related use cases where the use of quantum computers promises a foreseeable advantage. Close cooperation with industry will enable the development of innovative solutions that will secure the competitiveness of the German economy. The institutes Fraunhofer IAF, IAO, ITWM, and IPA are jointly conducting the four-year project.

Three innovations developed by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and its startups have achieved remarkable success at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovation Awards 2026, garnering three prestigious Innovation Awards for their cutting-edge research and development achievements. Today, advanced genetic sequencing technologies such as Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) offer a clearer window into inherited risk long before symptoms appear. For individuals with a family history, this insight supports earlier lifestyle changes, more frequent monitoring, and more personalised prevention strategies.

Microgravity experienced during spaceflight poses potential health risks to astronauts’ cardiovascular systems. Determining how to mitigate these health risks is challenging, as countermeasures are tested in Earth’s gravity. But what if there was a way to perform research in microgravity, without leaving the atmosphere? Researchers from Texas A&M University are participating in parabolic flights operated by Novespace in Bordeaux, France. These flights create brief periods of microgravity through a series of parabolic climb and descent maneuvers.

Europe’s industries waste massive amounts of energy like heat. The iWAYS project created the Heat Pipe Condensing Economiser (HPCE) to capture this waste and reuse it. Tested in factories across Europe, it cuts emissions, saves water, and reduces energy costs while keeping production running smoothly. 

Horizon, the largest U.S. open-science supercomputer arriving in 2026, is being designed around the Characteristic Science Applications program: 11 cutting-edge software projects tackling the scientific challenges that will define the facility’s future.
