New research in our Milky Way has revealed a neutron star that rotates around its axis at an extremely high speed. It spins 716 times per second, making it one of the fastest-spinning objects ever observed.

There have been many attempts to create monochromatic metallic materials, but few materials change luster color in response to external stimuli. In a recent breakthrough, researchers from Chiba University have prepared a diacetylene derivative-based metallic luster material that changes from silver to gold under UV irradiation. These findings are expected to find applications in decorative items, printing inks, photomask patterning, UV laser lithography, and cosmetics.

The coupled electronic and nuclear motions within a single molecule are ubiquitous in physics and chemistry, which determine the dominant pathways of energy transfer and charge transfer processes in nearly all chemical reactions. Thus, probing coupled electron-nuclear dynamics on ultrafast time scales is essential not only for our understanding of numerous fundamental processes in physics and chemistry, but also for controlling chemical reactions at the molecular level.
