Congratulations to the following outstanding journalists who received the 2012 AAAS-EurekAlert! Fellowships for International Science Reporters, sponsored by EurekAlert!.

Four fellows were chosen by judges from an applicant pool of reporters nominated by their editors at leading Chinese media organizations. Dr. Zixue Tai of the University of Kentucky School of Journalism and Telecommunications, Dr. Shu-Ling Chen Berggreen of the University of Colorado School of Journalism and Mass Communications, and Ms. Xiong Lei a guest professor at Renmin University of China and former executive editor of China Features, acted as independent judges.

The recipients of the 2012 fellowships are:

Yingqi Cheng

China Daily | China

Yingqi has worked as a reporter for China Daily, China's national English-language newspaper, for two years. She has worked on science and technology stories such as the invention of new devices to predict landslides and earthquakes, which piqued her interest after learning that China has a rising number of landslide disasters approaching the rainy season.

Yongming Huang

Southern Weekly | China

Yongming has been working with Southern Weekly as a science writer for almost three years. Prior to that, he worked for three years for the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). Yongming was interested in astronomy during high school and college. While in college, he published more than 100 pieces about astronomy. To feed his passion for science writing, Yongming traveled for eight weeks in the Arctic to cover climate change issues.

Shanshan Li

Southern People Weekly | China

Shanshan covers science, environment and public health for Southern People Weekly, a news magazine owned by Southern Media Group in China. Shanshan also writes for the magazine's biweekly column, "Scientist Profiles," where she interviews scientists and China and abroad. She has reported on topics such as food safety, vaccines, pandemics, mental health, nuclear power and biodiversity. Prior to working as a writer for Southern People Weekly, Shanshan was a science editor for Science World magazine.

Shaoting Ji

Xinhua News Agency | China

Shaoting has worked with Xinhua News Agency since 2005, and has covered stories ranging from paleontology, to rare animal protection, to China's space program. She was also assigned to cover the scientific and technological improvements made for the Beijing Olympic Games and Shanghai Expo. Shaoting is a co-founder of the "Scientific Squirrels," a scientific writing club part of "Hi, Science," currently the only registered NGO in China dedicated to popularizing science and technology. The club's blog, www.songshuhui.net, was awarded the Best of Blog Award by Deutsche Welle in 2008.
