Congratulations to the following outstanding journalists who received the 2011 AAAS-EurekAlert! Fellowships for International Science Reporters, sponsored by EurekAlert!.
The theme of the 2011 AAAS Annual Meeting is Science Without Borders. In keeping with this theme, and the mission of both AAAS and EurekAlert!, the fellowship seeks to promote international scientific dialogue and advance the communication of science news to the global public.
Andrea Obaid Carrión
Radio Cooperativa | Chile
Andrea is the host and creator of Tecnociencia (Technoscience), the only radio program in Chile that broadcasts news on science, technology and the environment. Her show airs weekly on Sundays and features interviews with experts on national and international topics. Andrea is a member of the Chilean Association of Science Journalists (ACHIPEC), and the Environmental Communication Network of Latin America and the Caribbean (REDCALC).
Nadia El Dakroury
El Dostor | Egypt
A journalist with El Dostor newspaper in Egypt, Nadia has been covering science and environment topics for five years. She is currently finishing a master's degree in science journalism and mass communication at Cairo University. Nadia is a member of the Arab Association for Science Journalists (ASJA).
Federico Kukso
Muy Interesante | Argentina
Federico has been a journalist with Muy Interesante, a popular science magazine in Argentina, since 2008. He has covered topics ranging from the linguistics of artificial languages such as klingon and na'Vi, to ocean explorations of microscopic marine life, to explaining the need for conservation of bat species in Argentina.
Dawei Yu
Caixin Media | China
After completing a master's degree in atmospheric science in the U.S. eight years ago, Dawei joined Oriental Outlook Weekly, part of Xinhua news agency in China. His writing has taken him far beyond atmospheric science into covering the bird flu, earthquakes, oil extraction and genetically modified foods. Dawei is currently a senior science journalist with Caixin Media.
