Schematic diagram of Opto-vTrap, an optogenetic trap for reversible inhibition of vesicular release, synaptic transmission, and behavior (IMAGE)
Caption
(top left) The components of Opto-vTrap were expressed in the vesicles and cytoplasm. (top right) Shining blue light causes a vesicle clusterization and complete inhibition of exocytosis. After the blue light is turned off, the vesicles decluster and quickly return back to their normal state. It is proposed that Opto-vTrap can serve as a next-generation optogenetic silencer to control brain activity and behavior with minimal confounding effects.
