The biohybrid hand (scale bar: 1 cm). (IMAGE)
Caption
The MuMuTAs are mounted on the forearm of the hand with a pair for each finger. Gold electrodes inserted into both sides of each MuMuTA carry an electrical current, which contracts the muscles with varying force. A cable-driven mechanism in the hand converts the straight muscle contractions into rotational movements for the joints.
