Applications of directional liquid transport on rigid CMIA. (IMAGE)
Caption
(A and B) Ethanol is transported continuously and directionally on CMIA along complex paths: (A) a zigzag pattern and (B) a cartoon house pattern. (C) CMIA serves as a functional three-way valve. The first row of images shows CMIA structures of inlet I, inlet II, and outlet III. In states I and II, the liquid (ethanol dyed red) deposited on either inlet I or inlet II can be transported to outlet III, respectively. In state III, the liquid (ethanol dyed blue and yellow, respectively) is deposited on both inlets I and II and can flow along designed paths, then be mixed to a green color and flow out from outlet III. The liquid depositing flow rate is 2.2 μL/s.
