Tiny Particles Keeps Artery Plaques in Check in Mouse Models of Atherosclerosis (2 of 2)

image: Tao et al. provided proof-of-principle evidence for the use of targeted siRNA nanoparticles (green color particles) to silence a plaque-destabilizing gene in these macrophages (red color cells). The image depicts targeted nanoparticles can specifically active lesional macrophages, promote efferocytosis, and inhibit atherosclerotic plaque necrosis (blue-violet color substance). This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Jul. 22, 2020, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by W. Tao at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA; and colleagues was titled, "siRNA nanoparticles targeting CaMKIIγ in lesional macrophages improve atherosclerotic plaque stability in mice." view more
