image: Illustration of a cardiac sarcomere, the elementary unit of cardiac muscle cells that contracts on a beat-to-beat basis. By being precisely positioned near the center of the sarcomere, myosin-binding protein C (MyBP-C) helps heart muscle turn on uniformly with each beat. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 20, 2015, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by M.J. Previs at University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt., and colleagues was titled, "Myosin-Binding Protein C is Key to Healthy Heartbeats." view more
