NRL hosts Chief of Naval Research

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) welcomed Rear Adm. Kurt J. Rothenhaus, Chief of Naval Research (CNR), on Jan. 23 where he received project updates, toured facilities, and addressed staff during a townhall.
Rothenhaus presented his mission and goals to the more than 200 employees who attended in person and over 850 virtual attendees before taking questions. The CNR praised the NRL team for their enduring commitment to the U.S. Navy Fleet and scientific research.
“I want to thank you for your continued professionalism, scientific prowess, administrative and staff support throughout the Lab that is bringing capability, lethality, and warfighter advantage to our frontline operators,” he said. “You are making a difference.”
The CNR provided updates on key areas impacting NRL's operations, including the Working Capital Fund (WCF), the Base Program, contracting processes, and facility modernization projects.
The CNR discussed the status of NRL’s WCF and its critical role in supporting NRL's research and development efforts. He also provided an overview of the Base Program and its importance in maintaining NRL's core capabilities and long-term research objectives.
Finally, Rothenhaus provided an update on ongoing facility modernization projects and their impact on NRL's research and development activities.
