It continues to be the third leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Radiotherapy, along with radical prostatectomy, is a pivotal treatment option for prostate cancer, especially in patients with localized disease. This review article delves into the various aspects of survivorship following radiotherapy for prostate cancer, exploring the factors influencing survival outcomes, advantages and disadvantages of radiation therapy, and the challenges faced by prostate cancer survivors.

Factors Influencing Survivorship

Survivorship in prostate cancer involves multiple dimensions that encompass not only physical but also psychosocial aspects. The primary components of cancer survivorship include:

  1. Recognition and Cure of Relapse: Early detection and treatment of any recurrence are crucial for prolonging survival. Regular follow-up examinations, including prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests, are vital for monitoring disease status post-treatment.
  2. Lifestyle Modifications: Adapting healthy habits such as exercise, smoking cessation, and maintaining a balanced diet can help mitigate cancer-related symptoms and improve quality of life.
  3. Psychosocial Interventions: Addressing the emotional and psychological impact of cancer and its treatment, including anxiety, depression, and fear of recurrence, is essential for overall well-being.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Radiotherapy
