Primitive blood vessels. (IMAGE)
Caption
This image shows the similarities between the transient blood vessels (pink), called aortic subepicardial vessels (ASVs), in the hearts of frogs and mice. As the mice grow into adulthood, these vessels disappear and coronary arteries form. In frogs, these vessels are maintained throughout their lives.
