The Power of a Combined Drug Treatment in Pancreas Cancer (IMAGE)
Caption
In tissue sampled from the pancreas of mice that model pancreatic cancer, brown spots stain cells that are dividing rapidly -- a hallmark of cancer progression. The lower image, in mice having concluded treatment with the team's combination therapy, consisting of a drug (MK2206) that inhibits the AKT signaling pathway plus a drug (BSO) that reduces antioxidant levels, far fewer cells are dividing than in the top image, showing treatment effects with the AKT inhibitor alone.
