Weevils Carry Symbiotic Bacteria (IMAGE) University of Utah Caption Grain weevils feed on wheat. Bacteria live symbiotically inside of these weevils. University of Utah biologists discovered a new bacterium, called HS, that infected an Indiana man who impaled his hand on a tree branch. They also discovered the new bacterial strain is related to the bacteria that live in grain weevils, shedding light on how bacteria in the environment end up living symbiotically inside insects.
