腎糸球体スリット膜はポドサイト足突起の間に存在し、タンパク尿を防ぐ働きを持つ。Nephrin（ネフリン：赤色破線）は腎糸球体スリット膜の最も重要な構成タンパク質であり、NPHS1はネフリンをコードする遺伝子である。
