Arginine suppresses the compound eye degeneration of SCA3 model fly (MJDtr-Q78(S)). Expression of an expanded polyglutamine protein leads to neuronal degeneration in the compound eye of SCA3 model fly (upper right) compared with the wild-type control fly (upper left). Arginine administration suppresses this compound eye degeneration (bottom).
