Caption
Ordovician map: Laurentia in the Late Ordovician. The gray line shows the 6000 km long belt that the researchers interpreted as the position of the Equator some 450 million years ago. The belt goes across northern Greenland, through central Canada, and continues to southwestern United States (Nevada and Utah).
