This is whale migration in the current ocean soundscape, where the major contribution to underwater noise is from shipping activity. Here this activity is reducing the ability of the whales to detect the calls of other whales. We see a mild reduction in the effective migration speed. (Animation: Supplied by Dr Stuart Johnston)
