Italy and the United States have a long history in partnering in knowledge development. While Italy is a breeding ground for academic talent, the United States excels in the transformation of research results into innovative solutions, especially within Life Sciences. The Dompé Foundation respects the symbiotic nature of this relationship in Life Sciences and toward this end, in 2021 launched the Rita Levi Montalcini Scholarships & Fellowships Program.

This funding opportunity, which honors the legacy of the only female Italian Nobel laureate in Medicine, is intended for students of any nationality that have already been admitted to a MA degree, Ph.D program or Research Fellowship in Neuroscience and/or Neurobiology at a US university. Consistent with the previous year, the Foundation is now offering up to eight scholarships and fellowships to the most promising candidates. Candidates must submit their application on the Foundation’s website by December 31st, 2022.

The Rita Levi Montalcini Scholarships and Fellowships are part of a more extensive program to support the higher education of young talents in STEM fields.  Through this program, the Dompé Foundation has awarded more than 40 scholarships and invested more than 3 million euros in 2 years. These numbers will rise to more than 70 scholarships and nearly 5 million euros respectively by Spring 2023, when all the scholarships relative to the academic year 2022-2023 will also be awarded.

Established in 2020 by Sergio Dompé, Executive President of Dompé farmaceutici, the Foundation seeks to break down barriers to higher education for promising low-income students while contributing to the development of the careers of the future, especially within the Life Sciences industry. The degree programs sponsored by the Foundation provide students with a multidisciplinary education, a strong grounding in new technologies and innovation principles, and the opportunity to access an international network: key ingredients for those who aim to be at the forefront of innovation and research today.

To date, the Dompé Foundation has involved 13 top-notch universities, three of which are outside of Italy: Queen Mary University of London, Great Britain; Washington University in St. Louis, US; Temple University in Philadelphia, US.
