UTICA, NY — The Masonic Medical Research Institute (MMRI) announced today that it has been officially certified to be a ‘Great Place to Work’ by a nonpartial certifying body, the Great Place to Work® Institute. Great Place to Work ® is best known as the team behind FORTUNE ® magazine’s ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ list, which has been published annually since 1998. Like the magazine list, Great Place to Work® applies the same rigorous standards and detailed methodology when certifying an organization with this distinction.

Although the Masonic Medical Research Institute was founded in 1958, only in recent years has the MMRI experienced particular growth and expansion. Since 2018, with the leadership of MMRI Executive Director Maria Kontaridis, Ph.D., the staff at the MMRI has grown from 17 to 50, with plans to double the staff size within five years. The MMRI has successfully competed against national research institutes in attracting top talent to the MMRI campus in Utica, New York. Some of MMRI’s lead scientists have even come to Utica from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, in part because of the outstanding reputation the MMRI has forged within the scientific community.

“The real secret value of the MMRI is in our people. We are so proud of our team,” said Dr. Kontaridis, who also serves as the MMRI Gordon K. Moe Professor and Chair of Biomedical Research and Translational Medicine. “We’re thankful to receive this distinguished honor, which recognizes what we knew along, that the MMRI is truly a great place to work.”

The process for this certification included an anonymous and confidential survey from MMRI employees, analysis of employee demographics, and a thorough comparison checked against similar organizations across the U.S.A. The Great Place to Work ® certification process for the MMRI found that the MMRI scores 22% higher than the national average for employee satisfaction for a workplace.

“We couldn’t be more excited!” said the MMRI Human Resources Manager, Carrie DiMaria, SPHR, SHRM-SCP. “We are so thankful to our employees for all the ways they each significantly contribute to our outstanding culture and employee experience at MMRI.  By the way, we’re hiring!”
