Dr. Manel Esteller, director of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, considered among the most relevant worldwide researchers according to the Stanford University

Barcelona, October 17^th, 2022. Manel Esteller, Director of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC), ICREA Researcher and Professor of Genetics at the University of Barcelona has been considered among the group of top 0.06% researchers with the most impact on world level in all areas of Science by the prestigious Stanford University in the United States.

This is reflected in a study recently published by the Data Center for Biomedical Sciences, Statistics, Meta-Analysis and Innovation (METRICS) of Stanford University. Considering more than 200,000 researchers in all scientific disciplines worldwide in terms of the citations of their discoveries, their main authorship and their transcendence for other researchers, the authors conclude that Dr Esteller occupies position 121 of the ranking, being the first biomedical researcher considered among those who work in Spain.

Dr Manel Esteller's research focuses on the control of gene activity, an area called Epigenetics, applied at the study of many human diseases, especially in the cancer field. The results derived from his investigations have contributed to deciphering the molecular bases of many pathologies, and have allowed the development of new diagnostic biomarkers and the emergence of new types of treatment.
