The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Ecological Society of China (ESC) to publish Ecosystem Health and Sustainability as a Science Partner Journal.

Ecosystem Health and Sustainability (EHS), launched in 2015, publishes high-quality research on advances in sustainability ecology and how global environmental change affects ecosystem health. Current Editor-in-Chief Yonglong Lu, Chair Professor at Xiamen University/Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), will continue to lead the open access journal.

As a member of the Science Partner Journal program, EHS will publish on a continuous basis under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). While the journal will continue to receive submissions and publish accepted papers in the interim, AAAS expects to open a new submission site for the journal in late 2022 and begin publishing papers for EHS in January 2023.

“It is a milestone event for Ecosystem Health and Sustainability to become a Science Partner Journal working in collaboration with AAAS, which will expand the journal’s global impact and abilities to publish more top-quality research and foster a generation of excellent young scientists,” emphasized Professor Yonglong Lu, Editor-in-Chief of the journal and Vice President of the Ecological Society of China. “EHS was founded as a platform to strengthen communications among ecologists from both developed and developing regions and will further promote the development of frontiers of ecology through this new partnership. I am confident that EHS will build on its rising progress to increase its success and help advance the field of ecology globally.”

AAAS and ESC are committed to a seamless transition for authors, editors, and readers as the journal completes its migration to the Science Partner Journal program.

“We are pleased that the Ecological Society of China has chosen the AAAS Science Partner Journal program as its new publishing partner for Ecosystem Health and Sustainability,” said Bill Moran, Publisher of the Science family of journals at AAAS. “The scope of the journal aligns well with the goal of AAAS to advance society through science, and we look forward to a productive partnership.”

EHS is currently indexed in Directory of Open Access Journals, Zoological Record, BIOSIS Previews, Science Citation Index Expanded, and Scopus. Topics of interest to the journal include but are not limited to: impacts of global or regional environmental change on ecosystem health; how changes in human activities affect ecosystem conditions; system-based approaches for applying ecological science in decision-making to promote sustainable development; multi-scale and long-term observations of ecosystem evolution; development of novel systems approaches or modeling and simulation techniques; and rapid responses to emerging ecological issues.
