Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) and Corundum Systems Biology Inc., headquartered in Tokyo, launched a 3-year multi-omics and microbiome research (“Project”) targeting development of a fully-integrated automated lab system by FY2024. The joint lab facility (“OIST-CSB Lab”) will enable large-scale human multi-omics research, paving way for new discoveries in human health and longevity.
A total budget of JPY301 million over 3 years starting April 2022 is allocated to the Project, with Corundum Systems Biology funding JPY237.1 million. The OIST-CSB Lab will be established at OIST in Okinawa, Japan, with Professor (adjunct) Hiroaki Kitano, as the Project’s Principal Research Investigator.
The full integration of automation will greatly hasten OIST-CSB Lab’s research in multi-omics, which requires handling of voluminous assorted patient omics data --genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, and microbiome. Plans are for full automaton to be in operation by FY2024, enabling the OIST-CSB Lab to generate biodata of standardized quality and reproducibility and enabling collaborative biomedical research between countries and regions.
OIST and CBS will hold a briefing session to introduce this initiative to the media as follows.
