The Bureau of Reclamation has selected Kenneth Nowak, Ph.D., as the Research and Development Office program manager. Nowak will oversee several programs within the office, including the Desalination and Water Purification Research Program, Science and Technology Program, Open Water Data, and Reclamation geographical information systems.

"Ken has led many research activities that have supported Reclamation's mission of delivering water and generating power," said Senior Advisor Research and Development Levi Brekke. "Ken's leadership will help generate new technologies and information to ensure Reclamation continues meeting its mission while addressing the challenges of drought, climate change, aging infrastructure, and ecosystem restoration."

Since 2016, Nowak has served as the water availability research coordinator for Reclamation's Research and Development Office. In this role, he coordinated internal and external research activities related to streamflow and water supply forecasting, water operations models and decision support systems, open data efforts, and climate change. He recently led the development of the Emerging Technologies in Snow Monitoring Report to Congress.

Before joining the Research and Development Office, Nowak worked in Reclamation's Lower Colorado Basin on long-term Colorado River planning and management.

Nowak holds a doctorate and Master of Science degrees in civil engineering from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
