In 2021 Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B (APSB) is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The journal was founded with the goal of creating a global high-level forum centred around drug discovery and pharmaceutical research/application. APSB was included by Chemical Abstracts in 2011, accepted by PubMed Central in 2015, indexed by Science Citation Index in 2017 and has evolved to become one of the most important international journals in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.

APSB is a monthly journal, in English, which publishes significant original research articles, rapid communications and high quality reviews of recent advances in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences — including pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, natural products, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical analysis and pharmacokinetics.

Featured papers in this issue are:

Pharmacologically targeting molecular motor promotes mitochondrial fission for anti-cancer by Yi Qian, Meimei Zhao, Qinghua Han, Jingkang Wang, Lixi Liao, Heng Yang, Dan Liu, Pengfei Tu, Hong Liang and Kewu Zeng (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apsb.2021.01.011). Natural-derived small-molecule J13 restrained the interaction between myosin-9 (MYH9) and actin molecular motor via prompting heat-shock protein A9 (HSPA9) attached to MYH9, resulting in excessive mitochondrial fission with implications for human cancer therapy.

A novel PGAM5 inhibitor LFHP-1c protects blood–brain barrier integrity in ischemic stroke by authors Chenglong Gao, Yazhou Xu, Zhuangzhuang Liang, Yunjie Wang, Qinghong Shang, Shengbin Zhang, Cunfang Wang, Mingmin Ni, Dalei Wu, Zhangjian Huang and Tao Pang (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apsb.2021.01.008). LFHP-1c directly binding to PGAM5 inhibits PGAM5 enzyme activity and impairs PGAM5 interaction with NRF2, promoting NRF2 transcription activity to protect against blood–brain barrier disruption and ischemic brain injury.

AncPhore: A versatile tool for anchor pharmacophore steered drug discovery with applications in discovery of new inhibitors targeting metallo-β-lactamases and indoleamine/tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenases by Qingqing Dai, Yuhang Yan, Xiangli Ning, Gen Li, Junlin Yua, Ji Deng, Lingling Yang and Guo-Bo Li (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apsb.2021.01.018). The authors of this paper describe AncPhore, a versatile tool for drug discovery, which is characterized by pharmacophore feature analysis and anchor pharmacophore (i.e., most important pharmacophore features) steered molecular fitting and virtual screening.

Intranasal temperature-sensitive hydrogels of cannabidiol inclusion complex for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder by authors Lulu Pang, Siqing Zhu, Jinqiu Ma, Lin Zhu, Yijing Liu, Ge Ou, Ruiteng Li, Yaxin Wang, Yi Liang, Xu Jin, Lina Du and Yiguang Jin (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apsb.2021.01.014). Nasal delivery of cannabidiol inclusion complex temperature-sensitive hydrogels could effectively target to brains for the treatment of mice with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is a novel promising option for the clinical treatment of PTSD.
