CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (September 20, 2006) -- Cell Press, the publisher of ten scientific journals including Cell and Neuron, is set to launch a new journal focused on the burgeoning field of stem cells. The monthly Cell Stem Cell -- published by Cell Press in affiliation with the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) -- will include primary research, reviews, and commentaries while also serving as a forum for issues of stem cell research policy and ethics.
"I am pleased that Cell Press can demonstrate its leadership in the biomedical community by publishing this exciting new title," said Lynne Herndon, president of Cell Press.
Cell Stem Cell will cover the entire range of stem cell biology, from basic cellular and developmental mechanisms to their therapeutic applications. The journal will highlight the latest findings with respect to embryonic stem cells, as well as tissue-specific and cancer stem cells.
"The field of stem cell biology has grown very rapidly over the past few years and seems set to continue to do so," said Deborah Sweet, who will serve as editor of Cell Stem Cell. "We look forward to providing a high-profile forum for the publication of leading research in this area through the launch of this new journal."
Cell Stem Cell will be edited by an expert team of full-time Cell Press scientific editors. The affiliation with the ISSCR, a new venture for Cell Press, is an exclusive support agreement between the two parties. The ISSCR is an independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote stem cell research and education about stem cells and their potential applications.
"We are very pleased that the ISSCR has chosen to endorse Cell Stem Cell as its official affiliated journal and look forward to the mutual synergies and benefits that this relationship will bring," Sweet said.
Cell Stem Cell is slated to launch in July, 2007.
