More Than Half of All Amazonian Tree Species Threatened (5 of 10)

image: A logging operation in Imataca Forest Reserve Venezuela. Today, this area is still operating as an area designated to forest management area (Cat. VI IUCN), but now under an official government-owned company 'Empresa Nacional Forestal'. The most logged species is Erisma uncinatum, and to a lesser extent Carapa guianensis. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 20, 2015, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by H. ter Steege at Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden, Netherlands, and colleagues was titled, 'Estimating the global conservation status of more than 15,000 Amazonian tree species.' view more
