Bonobos and Chimpanzees

video: Duke University anthropologist Brian Hare wants more people to appreciate what the Bonobo chimpanzee can teach us about human nature. The Bonobo is endangered and found in the wild only in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Along with the Common Chimpanzee, the Bonobo is the closest extant relative to humans. With support from the National Science Foundation, Hare and his team, including his wife Vanessa Woods, travel to the Congo to observe Bonobos in the wild. Among other things, they study their behaviors, how they make decisions, and their ability to cooperate. Hare says he wants to confront the question: AAre humans really as far removed from the animal kingdom as we might think?" view more
