The Search for Origins of a Cancer Therapy Skin Rash

image: Epidermal Growth Factor Recepter (EGFR) signaling regulates key factors involved in skin inflammation and host defense against infection. Here, mice lacking EGFR (as well as hairless mice with this same receptor deficiency) couldn't mount sufficient defense against Staphylococcus aureus. They exhibit skin inflammation and hair follicle degeneration. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the August 21, 2013, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by B.M. Lichtenberger at the Medical University of Vienna in Vienna, Austria, and colleagues was titled, "Epidermal EGFR Controls Cutaneous Host Defense and Prevents Inflammation." view more
