image: Researchers created biocompatible combinations of engineered cells and LED lights. Far-red light from the LEDs triggered the cells to produce hormones for maintaining blood sugar levels. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the April 26, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by J. Shao at East China Normal University in Shanghai, China, and colleagues was titled, 'Smartphone-controlled optogenetically engineered cells enable semiautomatic glucose homeostasis in diabetic mice.' view more
