The Transgenic Key to More Productive Crops (6 of 7)

video: Scientists Donald Ort, Paul South and Amanda Cavanagh study how well tobacco plants modified to shortcut photorespiration perform beside unmodified plants in real-world conditions. Plants engineered with this synthetic shortcut are about 40 percent more productive. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 4 Jan. issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Paul South at United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service in Urbana, IL, and colleagues was titled, "Synthetic glycolate metabolism pathways stimulate crop growth and productivity in the field." view more
