The Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (NPP) satellite captured this near-infrared image of the heat from Arizona's Basin Fire on May 14 at 09:00 UTC (5:00 a.m. EDT/4 a.m. CDT).

According to Inciweb, the multi-agency fire Incident Information System, the low intensity fire has grown to 6,018 acres. Inciweb reported that the fire is consuming Juniper-Oak woodlands, and litter and understory. The Basin Fire is located in San Carlos, Arizona and was started by lightning on April 22. view more
