Helping an Oral Diabetes Drug Go the Extra Mile (1 of 4)

image: The SEMA/SNAC tablet is absorbed in the stomach. Traditionally, tablets are absorbed in the intestine, but that would not work well for a peptide, hence the importance of stomach absorption. SNAC, a fatty acid derivative that is much smaller than SEMA, allows SEMA to become absorbed without being degraded. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 14, 2018, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by S.T. Buckley at ovo Nordisk A/S in Måløv, Denmark; and colleagues was titled, " Transcellular stomach absorption of a derivatized glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist." view more
