乙醯左旋肉碱缺乏与重症抑郁

在对年龄在20到70岁的116人的一项研究中，重症抑郁（MMD）患者的血乙醯左旋肉碱（LAC）水平比对照组更低，而乙醯左旋肉碱（LAC）缺乏增加了疾病严重性且降低了发病年龄，乙醯左旋肉碱（LAC）水平低的病人倾向于对标准的抗抑郁药物无响应，并且比对照组报告了更高的童年期虐待率，这提示乙醯左旋肉碱（LAC）可能帮助诊断一种严重的创伤相关型抑郁。
