video: An aeriel view of Dongsha Atoll, with reef flat in the foreground, and patch reefs in the 14-meter deep lagoon. The 14-meter long research vessel, Atoll-6, is anchored near the edge of one of more than 1000 patch reefs. The top of the patch reef is dominated by massive Porites, from which the skeleton sample was sampled. The video was taken by Yu Ming Chang. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the May 19, 2017, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by H. Ren at National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan, and colleagues was titled, "21st-century rise in anthropogenic nitrogen deposition on a remote coral reef." view more
