In support of Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Awareness Month, the American Gastroenterological Association would like to highlight important new CRC research appearing in the March issues of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Gastroenterology.

Facts about colorectal cancer:

  • CRC is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men and women in the U.S.
  • For average-risk persons, CRC screening should start at age 50 and continue until age 75.
  • One in three adults is not being screened for CRC as recommended.
  • Twenty-three million Americans are not up-to-date on CRC screening.
  • More than half the patients who will die of colorectal cancer this year could have been saved by early screening.
  • Ninety percent of people live five or more years when CRC is found early through testing.
