Leishmania Reproduce Sexually (2 of 5)

image: A 3-D model of Leishmania major promastigote stage parasites, found in the sand fly vector where sexual exchange occurs. Cells were visualized by autofluorescence of membranes, and confocal z-stacks were volume rendered in 3-D using a computer program. This image accompanied the report "Demonstration of Genetic Exchange During Cyclical Development of Leishmania in the Sand Fly Vector," by N. S. Akopyants and colleagues appearing in the April 10, 2009, issue of Science. view more
