image: These are functional connectivity maps for Non-Risk (top panel) and Risk (bottom panel) gene carriers in the Discovery samples (autism and typically developing controls). The maps show much greater connectivity within the frontal lobe for Risk carriers compared to Non-Risk carriers. Specifically, the Non-Risk group shows discrete connectivity with the left frontal and temporal lobe while the Risk group shows a much more diffuse pattern of connectivity on both the left and right hemispheres. Images were rendered using CARET (http://brainmap.wustl.edu/caret). This image relates to an article that appeared in the Nov. 3, 2010, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Ashley Scott-Van Zeeland of University of California, Los Angeles, and colleagues was titled, "Altered Functional Connectivity Within the Frontal Lobe of the Brain Associated with Variation in CNTNAP2." view more
