2001 Lovelace Award goes to Dr. Dorothy Denning

Dr. Denning will be awarded the Augusta Ada Lovelace Award from the Association for Women in Computing for her work in cryptology and Internet Security. The Augusta Ada Lovelace Award honors individuals who have excelled in the areas of outstanding scientific and technical achievement and extraordinary service to the computing community through their accomplishments and contributions on behalf of women in computing. Dr. Denning has achieved this honor in her 32 years of professional experience, and her academic advancement of the importance of issues involved with cryptology and security. She has written four books and contributed more than 120 articles in professional journals, newspapers, magazines, and conference proceedings.

Augusta Ada Byron, Countess of Lovelace (1815-1852) was the fascinating and very intelligent Victorian lady who became friends with Charles Babbage, fellow scientist and mathematician. Her vision of calculating devices was nothing short of brilliant, so much so that the United States Department of Defense named the programming language 'Ada' in her honor. The AWC award is named in honor for Augusta Ada Byron.

Association for Women in Computing is a non-profit international woman's association committed to furthering the professional development and advancement of women involved and interested in information technology.
