Changes in Snow Water Storage in High Mountain Asia (5 of 7)

image: Average weather station density over the period 1961-2007 for a commonly used modeling product (APHRODITE: Asian Precipitation -- Highly-Resolved Observational Data Integration Towards Evaluation of Water Resources). There are very few weather stations in much of the study region, and even fewer that collect accurate and long-term information on snowfall. This study by Smith et al. provides new information on an important water resource in a poorly monitored and remote region of the world that has a significant impact on downstream regions. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Jan. 17, 2018, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by T. Smith at Universität Potsdam in Postdam, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Changes in seasonal snow water equivalent distribution in High Mountain Asia (1987 to 2009)." view more
