对赞比亚Kariba水电水坝下游的二氧化碳排放的一项研究发现了在不同时间尺度上的高度可变的排放,季节性变化很可能是由于二氧化碳在分层的水库水中的积累,而至多200%的小时变化很可能是由于水库分层时期水坝运营对电力需求做出的响应;这组作者说,这些结果提示,不考虑下游二氧化碳排放的季节性或小时变化,可能导致热带水库排放的偏差至多90%。
