New Clues to Lupus Development (2 of 3)

image: Hematoxylin and eosin stained kidney section from a Nox2-deficient lupus prone mouse. Renal disease is extreme in the absence of NADPH oxidase. Glomeruli are enlarged, hypercellular, and exhibit proteinaceous deposits and crescent formation. This brightfield image was taken by Allison Campbell on a wide-field microscope (Nikon Eclipse Ti) and a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera (QImaging Retiga 2000R) with NIS Elements software. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the October 24, 2012, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by A.M. Campbell at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., and colleagues was titled, “NADPH Oxidase Inhibits the Pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.” view more
