Stretchable Electronic 'Skin' (3 of 9)

image: Image of a piece of electronics with physical properties, i.e. stiffness, bending rigidity, thickness and mass density, matched to the epidermis. Such ‘epidermal’ electronic systems seamlessly integrate and conform to the surface of the skin in a way that is mechanically invisible to the user. The devices have the potential to provide a range of healthcare and non-healthcare related functions. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 12, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Dae Hyeong Kim of the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology in Urbana, Ill., and colleagues was titled, "Epidermal Electronics." view more
