一项研究发现,尽管当前的中东地区的气候的标志是干旱的夏季和湿润的冬季,保存在以色列Soreq洞穴中的碳酸盐矿物质表明,在末次间冰期,夏季季风周期性地延伸到以色列,再加上比如今更湿润的冬季,为该地区带来了增加的降水量;这种季风入侵的时间信号与人类迁徙出非洲的考古学指标重叠,这提示了古气候可能影响了中东地区的早期人类运动。
