Using population abundance data from 1967 to 2016, researchers report a correlation between the increasing abundance of pink salmon in the North Pacific Ocean and the declining abundance and productivity at breeding sites in southeastern Australia of short-tailed shearwaters, which migrate between nesting grounds in the South Pacific Ocean and wintering grounds in the North Pacific Ocean, highlighting a transhemispheric ecosystem link spanning 15,000 km of the Pacific Ocean.
