A Window to a Respiratory Virus (5 of 5)

video: This clip highlights the inherent plasticity of the RSV nucleocapsid helix. The helices were generated with pitch values varying from 7 nm to 12 nm by steps of 0.1 nm, to show that the pitch variability and flexibilty along the nucleocapsid helices (resulting in curved helices) can be easily accommodated by the observed N-N contacts in the ring, which are preserved and the connectivity is maintained in helices of higher pitch value. This video relates to an article that appeared in the Nov. 27 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. R.G. Tawar of the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France, and colleagues, was titled, "3-D Structure of a Nucleocapsid-Like Nucleoprotein-RNA Complex of Respiratory Syncytial Virus." view more
