The yellow dot in the picture represents a landmark on the proximal part of the dorsal cuticle. This position is indicated in the animated longitudinal section by the vertical yellow line. Notable waves travel in direction distal to proximal. This video relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 16, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Fernando Montealegre-Zapata at the University of Lincoln in Lincoln, UK, and colleagues was titled, "Convergent Evolution Between Insect and Mammalian Audition." view more
