科研人员模拟了尼泊尔一侧的喜马拉雅山脉的碎片覆盖的冰川上的有各种朝向的作为融化热点地区的冰崖的演化,他们报告说,与持续朝北的悬崖相比,朝南的悬崖获得更强烈的太阳辐射,导致了朝南的悬崖持续变平并且被碎片掩埋,这提示朝南的悬崖不能持续存在足够长的时间从而足以影响这个地区冰川质量平衡 ,该地区下游有数以百万计的居民依赖于冰川水源。
