Oceanic Electromagnetic Spectrum

image:

Electromagnetic radiation -- including radio waves, visible light, and X-rays -- rises and falls as it travels through space, like waves rippling across the ocean. These different wavelengths help define particle properties. Here, they are linked to ocean creatures and objects, from blue whales to oxygen atoms.

At Brookhaven, we specialize in exploring the itty-bitty right end of this spectrum using ultra-bright X-rays, electron microscopes, and other fantastic tools. Investigating materials at that scale helps us make fundamental discoveries that revolutionize our understanding of biology, energy technology, and even the cosmos.
