This year's winner is a young scientist from the CAST Cooperative Research Centre at Monash University Melbourne, Australia: Dr. Mark Easton.
Dr. Easton received the GKSS Magnesium Award 2009 because of his important contributions to the understanding of the relationship between nuclei and grain refinement for magnesium alloys. He was involved in the development of new grain refiner for wrought alloys containing Zirconium in the most effective form. Dr. Easton has lead teams in the development of several new alloys, predominantly for casting, and for a range of applications. He has provided considerable leadership in the Australian research community and globally.
The GKSS Magnesium Research Award 2009 is at the 8th International Magnesium Conference of the German Society for Materials Science in Weimar awarded.
